Why?

Years ago, I read a book titled,

Why Do Bad Things Happen To Good People?

But now I can’t remember the answer to that question -

I’m sure we’d all like to know!

the old adage - ”the rich get richer and the poor get poorer”

Becomes more startlingly true every day -

So why does God, in his wisdom, allow this to happen?

Is that fair? Or perhaps it’s not fair to blame God!

After all, the wise and successful of this world would say -

We all have choices!

Yes, we do, but what if the choices we make seem right at the time,

And later on someone cheats, someone changes,

someone dies,

Or the markets crash - or fires and floods rage?

Then, our once perfect choices turn out to be imperfect!

If God is not to blame, and the choices we make

can’t be relied upon,

Then it must be destiny that rules our lives -

Is that why some are fated to be rich, successful

and happy,

While others live to be poor, hungry and sad?

It makes no sense at all to me.

I must search through my trunk of keepsakes

for that old book,

But I doubt it will give me the answers I need.

Perhaps there is one person who could solve

the mystery -

She is the most desired woman on Earth

and has been around

Since time immemorial -

Her name is - “Lady Luck”!
